North Carolina police said Friday that three people were wounded in a shooting inside a shopping mall parking lot in the morning hours, and have arrested a suspect in the case.

Two of the victims have been hospitalized in critical condition and one has been released, said Rose Dillard, a Greensboro police spokeswoman. Two others were treated and released at the scene.

Breeze Christian High School, about a quarter mile from the mall, was placed on lockdown for about an hour after the shooting.

Sam, who didn’t want to use his last name, told WSOC-TV he saw the shooter sitting in a vehicle with his hands up. The driver was detained by another driver. The suspect then ran inside the mall, chased by that man and tackled.

“I guess the man scared him so he got down and tackled him and arrested him,” Sam said.

Dillard said she couldn’t confirm how the shooting began.

Police from multiple departments converged on the mall parking lot after being notified of the shooting, Dillard said. Multiple crime scene investigators were taking photographs of what appeared to be blood on the ground near the shopping center.

Hunter’sville is a town about 37 miles (60 kilometers) northwest of Greensboro.
