Madonna has taken to social media to blast Instagram for removing her photos from the platform following a disagreement over the singer’s use of the hashtag #Metoo.

The Queen of Pop was angered by the removal of several of her posts, which she wrote on Instagram Stories addressed to the company.

In a letter posted to her Instagram story, Madonna said: “Whilst I may have participated in trending topics in support of #metoo, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to you all that I have my own issues with our industry and others who use it to harm and harass women.

“I am here to help.”

No apology

The posts removed from Instagram were a series of four pictures taken at a rooftop party in Miami, including one where she is being kissed on the cheek by her ex-husband Guy Ritchie.

The ensuing row began after Madonna used the popular #Metoo hashtag, which stems from a series of high-profile sexual harassment and abuse cases involving movie mogul Harvey Weinstein and others in Hollywood.

The star accuses Instagram of having no integrity and deleting her posts without giving a reason.

“You’ve intentionally wiped my Instagram from your servers, with no explanation,” she said.

The singer posted screenshots from her cached tweets and s shows a newspaper headline to the right about her.

Madonna threatened the Instagram’s creator, Kevin Systrom, with legal action, and threatened to block her followers if the platform did not reinstate her content.

A representative for the singer has declined to comment further.

Instagram responded to a request for comment and said: “We constantly make improvements to help make Instagram better for everyone.”

Instagram came under fire when its parent company Facebook was the subject of criticism over its use of the #Metoo hashtag.

Michele Perlmutter, who works as the personal secretary to the wife of top tech investor Peter Thiel, used the hashtag last week in a Facebook post.

The hashtag is known to have been used by a number of parties connected to the disgraced businesswoman.
