A Toronto-area doctor was arrested Monday by members of the Toronto Police Service’s (TPS) sexual assault squad, and will be charged with sexual assault with a weapon and assault.

A resident of Vaughan, Ontario, the doctor, who works at Cambridge Hospital, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, and Wellesley General Hospital, was arrested this morning and will appear in court at a later date.

Efforts to contact the doctor for comment were unsuccessful.

Police received a report about the incident on Sunday night, and began their investigation into the incident, which took place at an apartment building in the 1100 block of Wellesley Street West.

“There is an alleged threat involved that I cannot disclose at this time. That is part of the case that we’re investigating,” said Detective Inspector George Dicarlo, head of the Sexual Assault Squad.

Police have been tight-lipped regarding the information they have about the investigation, and have said that they are not aware of any other victims.

“We’re relying on the victim and the witnesses that we were able to identify so far,” said Dicarlo.

The doctor’s age and identity were not immediately released.
