19 ways you can help — or even better, ask for help — in your local newsroom

CORRECTION 12/11, 12:30 pm. The editor apologizes for misdescribing this newsletter as organized by staff, rather than a collaborative effort.

I edit Art Beat for the Chicago Tribune and am always searching for ways to be more creative and as useful as possible to my readers. Whether it’s with blog posts like this, Q&As and conversation starters like this, or writing masterpieces such as this eye-opening article about Sherman Oaks’s newest museum, I want Art Beat to be about being as helpful as possible for my readers.

Art Beat is not a new entry; this list of other collaborations was created earlier this year. The challenge was to bring that collaborative spirit back to Art Beat, and to make it more conversational and easier to find. Our readers are doing this through our taglines and tweets, and sharing this newsletter through their art projects on Instagram and Twitter. I hope you find the goal of developing other ideas and collaborations useful.

Don’t bump it I’m headed to the beach, and while I know I’m about to take a detour along the way, don’t knock it. California is really beautiful, but Phoenix is great.

We’re asking the readers for their thoughts about landscape design. What else needs to be done? Is it a rooster house or a painting room? What should our proposed plans for the green walls look like? This is what our next brainstorming session is all about.
